Maternity Shopping

Well we took the plunge last night and spent the evening shopping for maternity clothes. I found some good things that will help me throughout the summer. I am honestly not sure why people don't wear maternity clothes  (jeans especially) all the time. They are the most amazingly comfortable things I have ever worn! I can't wait to live in them!!!
It's funny, I usually hate shopping because it's so hard to be comfortable in clothes...not last night...I feel so comfortable in my body right now, shopping was easy. Except of course the bathingsuit part of it. :( I ended up finding one that will work, but it's going to have to work for the entire summer. I told Nick that most of the time I feel so blessed to be able to spend our summers on the water, boating. BUT right now, the whole bathingsuit thing is just kind of painful. I guess I have to suck it up though and count my blessings! :)

A Looooong Interesting Day

Our Friday afternoon was great! We had a Dr. appointment and got to hear the babies heartbeat again...no ultra sound though. We were surprised to even get to be able to hear the heartbeat! That has become my favorite sound. She said that everything is growing perfectly normal. The babies heartbeat is right on track and so is my belly and weight. :) So that was all great. THEN.... our evening was entirely different!
I came home to a destroyed house and an unconscious dog, not Bauer, but Champ (Lynne and Bill's dog). We have been dog sitting while they are in Louisiana. Anyway, Champ, at some point in the day decided to somehow get his cookie bag (which included a bottle of his seizure pills) off of the counter. He then ate all of the cookies and attacked the pill bottle. He must of went on a crazy high and bounced all over our house until finally crashing on the floor. He was out...breathing, but completely out. We rushed him quickly to the vet where they preceded to tell us that they believe that he injested roughly 50 pills out of the bottle and that they could do nothing. We had to take him to an emergency pet hospital in Grand Rapids. After being in Grand Rapids for about 1 1/2 hrs. while they examined him, we finally had to call Lynne and Bill. It was the worst phone call we could ever make. The vet told us that there was a chance he wasn't going to make it. There were a few procedures they were going to try but not to get our hopes entirely up. We left him there at the hospital last night. Since then he has been hooked on IVs, and has been closely monitored after having a few different procedures done. We call every 8 hours to get the updates. The last one was the best. The Dr. said she was very happy because he was making great progress. Still not up and moving around, but showing sure signs of improvement. They are going to keep him again over night to keep him on fluids but she is hopeful that he will come home sometime tomorrow. Bill is on his way back from Louisiana. We feel horrible that this happened in our care.
All the while we were waiting on the news of Champs condition, we just kept thinking about how scary this kind of stuff will be with a child. Not sure if I'm ready for all the worry. I hear it doesn't end now for the rest of your life.

Maternity Leave

I can't believe it but it's all taken care of! I already have a substitute who is thrilled to be in long term and I have been approved to take all of November, December and January off. I know it's still not nearly enough, but it's better than the original 6 weeks. To be honest, I've never done this before, but the thought of February 1st already makes me teary. I can't imagine how hard it's going to be. :( I am fortunate at least to be able to have every summer to spend with my baby!

Today one of my students said to me "I hope the baby is a girl." I asked her why and she said "Because she'll be really cute, and she'll be exactly like you when she grows up." I totally lost it!!! Sometimes, they can be the sweetest human beings on the planet!

16 Weeks!

Here's our 16 week baby bump. I can't wait to go shopping for new clothes...I have nothing that fits around this belly anymore! :)

1st Grade

I read a book to my class yesterday called "My Teacher's Having a Baby". It was a really cute book and perfect for answering all of their questions.
I still had some interesting comments coem at me though! They seemed very happy and excited that I am having a baby. Most of them said they want it to be a girl.
One of them said "Doesn't it seem like you have to eat a baby in order to have a baby in your tummy?" I wasn't exactly sure how to respond to that one so I just said "Well, I do know that you have to pray A LOT!"
Another one said, "I can tell your having a baby because of your tummy!" I was glad to finally fill them in, I know with all the students at my school there's been a lot of speculation!

Schalhamers

We had so much fun last night hosting a baby shower for Todd and Mo. We are so excited that our babies are going to be just 3 months a part from each other...just like Todd and Nick. It was fun to be around everyone, especially because we haven't seen everyone since the news has been spreading. There were three of us preggers there...Marisa, Carissa and Melissa...so funny! I think it's so funny how the BR people throw baby showers. They are more or less just another reason for a party. Since when do you get home from a baby shower at 1:00am?! I think everyone thought it was a riot, games and all! Seemed to be just a lot of laughing and good times!
Mo gave me a bunch of books that she said she loved. I read one today and it was awesome! It's light and funny (I laughed till tears when I read it, mind you I did that in church this morning too for no real super funny reason, so maybe that's just another hormone symptom...I like it though)! Anyway, the book I read today was "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy. She also gave me "Baby Laughs" for after the baby is born. Another book she gave me was "Baby Bargains", one she said she got tons of low down on what to buy and what not to buy. I started reading it today and have already decided on what crib we want. :)
